I recently bought a pair of 501 headphones. The sound is excellent, except for the bass. When I press the loudness key there is more bass, but the sound may be distorted (especially with older recordings). I also have to turn the volume way up. I wonder whether buying a new amplifier would enhance the overall performance of the headphones (I have an old Kennwood). Any tip welcome!
Hi Clemens,
The K 501 are high-end headphones honored with numerous awards, including the 1997 Golden Ear, by hi-fi and high-end magazines such as Audio, Audio Professional, Stereoplay, Stereo, etc. Using 45-mm (1.8-in.) Varimotion speakers and extremely acoustically transparent earcups, the K 501 provide an extremely open, neutral sound and ruler-flat response for discriminating music lovers.
Thus, there should not be a lack of bass caused by the headphones.
If you have the chance, try other amplifiers before buying. Some excellent amplifiers give excellent results to the speakers, however some of them are not as good sounding at the headphone outputs.

可见此款耳机以空旷,自然,平直的声音见长,低音并无问题。此外,耳放的选择应该谨慎,否则花钱还不讨好。
