  bass guitars and uprights
the bass performance of the three is very close - and i don't think i'm allowed to
say which is better, but which one i prefer - the CD3000.

HD600
the HD600 pass along a good bass essance and fullness. they go very deep. the
problem is that they add an unnatural edge to the bass - on less then good recordings
they show that they make bass guitars sound close to Rickenbackers (the good old
electric bass of the Beatles, Yes, Genesis etc.). uprights are less prone to this.
DT880
the bass on these is very controlled - you'll need your good recordings. only then
they will go as low as the senns. its colored as much as the senns, but feels
more natural and better to experience. the sound itself feels transparent, yet a bit
"cloudy". the bass is smooth, and it feels like it can "powww" against some wall that
stops it on the lower notes. it parallels some essance that uprights are supposed to
give, so it goes well together. i like the character of the beyers here best among
the 3, but i prefer the overall performance of the CD3000.
CD3000
not their strongest side, though it outperforms the competitors. the bass is colored
too - it sounds a bit modern or electrical, but the border between the true and the
unnatural edge blends better then with the senns, to my taste.
the bass doesn't expand in the sounstage as much as i would like it...or to say:
sometimes the music fullness don't come from the bass/upright as it should.
but remember, the sony's soundstage is damn huge. the resolution is very good- you
can hear more of the tapping of the player very well, besides the played notes.
the sonys reproduce the bassline with no effort best among the 3, maybe because i
feel that the effort goes to create the soundstage more then to the bass/upright.
the reproduction is blacker then the beyers's.

HD600
the senns don't sound detailed or lifefull enough for me.
DT880
the guitars is one of the beyers's strengths. they are full of life, yet a bit
plasticy - strings actually tends to sound a bit more like plastic strings then
metal. overall, very good performance and extensions, the guitars leads the way
on these headphones, and hold much charm.
CD3000
our absolute winner- near perfect. again, the sonys excells when it comes to
reproducing metallic sounds- now with the strings. excellent note separation,
expantion in the soundstage, and the guitar gets the best grip, out of me,
at least. another instrument that the sonys reproduce with no effort. they go
great up and down.
try: Al Di Meola,John McLaughlin,Pacco De Lucia-Friday Night. i promise you'll
prefer the sonys, whoever you are.

distorted guitars
HD600
another "not that good" of the senns. the sound just don't hold the right energy.
they are too smooth for this job, and don't have enough separation to ride on.
DT880
the beyers delivers waves of well made distortion - the character ain't metallic
distortion, but more like sort of a good tube overdrive. the distortion won't be
exciting enough for some, but yet much better then the senns. the distorted guitars
take a big part of the environmental structure and they emphasize them a bit too much.
some will like it,
some won't.
crossfeed really takes down distorted guitars- try it with the beyers to see if
you like the sound.
CD3000
enough, sonys, enough! here they are again, taking another bite from my love to
the beyers.. they are the most transparent here, doing exactly what they are told,
and the guitars take the best balance in the music. might be a little less charm
then with the beyers, but they are more flexible to the darker side of rock for
sure. they add the less and do the best.
